The 2008 Crim Festival of Races took place a few weeks ago (August 23, 2008) so this post is a bit late.Sorry about that but time seems to fly by faster the older one gets. Also, if you look up the word "lazy" in the dictionary, you might find my picture as the definition! So "old" and "lazy" are my excuses. They're not great excuses but at least they're honest excuses.
Back to "The Crim" as it is commonly called in the Flint area. This event, over the past 32 years, has really grown into a major happening for the City of Flint. It is now the largest 10 mile race in the State of Michigan and the 3rd largest in the nation! This year's "Crim" brought approximately 14,000 participants to the various foot races and walks that make up the "Crim".
Another huge success for the folks charged with planning, preparing and managing this annual event. Kudos to them!
Also, kudos to the thousands (estimated to be around 50,000) of spectators lining the 10 mile course who are there cheering on the participants. I have not ran in "The Crim" but am told that the cheering of the spectators means a great deal to those running and walking the course.
This year's overall winner in the 10 mile event was Stephen Kichumbe Koech of Kenya in a time of 48 minutes and 4 seconds. This is pace of 4.49 minutes per mile over the 1o mile course!

Congratulations to all the runners and walkers taking part in this year's "Crim".
